At the April 8 Board of Education meeting, the Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) Board approved adopting a new History–Social Science curriculum, Social Studies Weekly, for students in kindergarten through sixth grade.

The adoption followed a thorough and collaborative review process that began in November 2025 with the formation of the History–Social Science Adoption Subcommittee. Throughout the process, the district collected and carefully reviewed feedback from subcommittee members, pilot teachers, school site staff, and families. Based on input from all educational partners, the committee recommended adopting Social Studies Weekly.

The newly adopted curriculum is fully aligned with the current California History–Social Science Framework and is designed to support engaging, standards-based instruction across all CVESD elementary schools. Implementation of the curriculum will begin in the 2026–27 school year.

Additional information about curriculum implementation and classroom instruction will be shared with families as the district prepares for the rollout. For questions or additional details, families are encouraged to contact their school or visit the Curriculum Information page on the district website.
