CVESD Launches 2026-27 Speech Contest: "How Can One Idea Change the World?"

The Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) is excited to announce the return of its annual Speech Contest for the 2026-27 school year. Students in grades 4 through middle school are invited to participate in this long-standing tradition that celebrates student voice, creativity, and public speaking skills. The theme for this year's contest is"How Can One Idea Change the World?"

This year's theme encourages students to explore an idea they believe could make a meaningful difference. Whether the idea is big or small, practical or imaginative, students are challenged to explain how their idea could positively impact their community, their future, or the world around them. Judges will be looking for thoughtful perspectives, strong organization, and confident delivery.

Students will first participate in school-level competitions before advancing to the district semifinals and finals. District semifinal competitions will take place February 22-24, 2027, followed by the district finals on February 25, 2027.

Students advancing to the district competition will have the opportunity to compete for cash awards and special recognition. First-place winners in each grade category will receive a $300 award, a commemorative school poster, social media recognition, and a perpetual trophy displayed at their school for one year. In addition, first-place winners will be invited to share their speeches at community events hosted by CVESD and local partner organizations. Second-place winners will receive $200, third-place winners will receive $100, and additional finalists will receive recognition awards.

CVESD looks forward to hearing the innovative ideas and inspiring perspectives our students will bring to this year's competition. Families interested in learning more about the Speech Contest should contact their child's school for information about site-level competitions and participation opportunities.
