At just seven years old, Bodhi Perez, a second grader at Salt Creek Elementary, is already making a meaningful impact. This year, he was selected by the American Heart Association as one of only 15 National Youth Heart Ambassadors nationwide for the 2025–26 school year. Bodhi will join youth volunteers across the nation in supporting programs like the Kids Heart Challenge and American Heart Challenge, empower others to build lifelong healthy habits, gain lifesaving knowledge, and make a positive impact in their community.

Bodhi’s passion for heart health comes from his own story. Diagnosed with congenital heart defects as a baby, he underwent open-heart surgery at age three and made a remarkable recovery. Today, he continues to thrive, staying active through karate and dance while inspiring others to take care of their hearts and overall well-being.

His achievements and remarkable spirit were celebrated at the October 15, 2025, Board of Education Meeting, where his principal, associate principal, and family joined the Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) Board of Education and district leaders in honoring this outstanding accomplishment. Through his new ambassador role, Bodhi will help raise awareness about heart health, encourage students to make healthy choices, and represent heart survivors.

“We are so proud of Bodhi and the strength he’s shown through his heart journey,” said Bodhi’s mom, Dana.

“He’s embracing his special heart and sharing his story to inspire other kids and families. He is a true example that even the youngest voices can make a big difference and bring hope to others.”

CVESD proudly celebrates Ambassador Bodhi for his leadership, resilience, and dedication to inspiring children everywhere to live heart-healthy lives.
